Obtaining a CCW (carry concealed weapons) permit in Northern CA is much easier than many bay area and Southern CA counties. It is each Sheriff's policy which dictates whether you are able to receive a CCW, or not. The state of CA requires that each applicant shall have good cause. Many Sheriff's in CA have determined that "good cause" shall be personal protection or self defense. This is the case with Placer County Sheriff Devon Bell, although each and every individual has plenty of "good cause" for a CCW permit. 

You must schedule an appointment directly with the Placer County Sheriff Department, CCW division. You shall demonstrate good moral character, prove that you are an outstanding resident of Placer County, and be prepared to undergo a thorough and complete background check.

If you have no background concerns or issues, it is recommended that you take the training course, prior to your interview with the Placer County Sheriff's Department. If you have background concerns (criminal history, bad driving record, etc.), you should go through your interview prior to spending money on a CCW training course.

Upon approval of your Placer County CCW application, you will be required to complete at least an 8 hour CCW training, including demonstrating the ability to safely (and proficiently) handle and use the handguns (up to 3) to be on your permit, and you must "qualify" with each weapon to be on your permit, by specific serial number.
