Obtaining a CCW (carry concealed weapons) permit in Northern CA is much easier than many bay area and Southern CA counties. It is each Sheriff's policy which dictates whether you are able to receive a CCW, or not. The state of CA requires that each applicant shall have good cause. Many Sheriff's in CA have determined that "good cause" shall be personal protection or self defense. Nevada County Sheriff Shannon Moon has determined that good cause shall include a brief reason why you wish to be issued a CCW permit in Nevada County.

You must schedule an appointment directly with the Nevada County Sheriff Department, CCW division. You shall demonstrate good moral character, prove that you are an outstanding resident of Nevada County, and be prepared to undergo a thorough and complete background check.

Upon approval of your Nevada County CCW application, you will be required to complete at least an 8 hour CCW training, including demonstrating the ability to safely (and proficiently) handle and use the handguns (up to 3) to be on your permit, and you must "qualify" with each weapon to be on your permit, by specific serial number.
